QUESTIONS

Which kind of training is right for me & my dog?

-This depends on the behaviors your dog is displaying and also what specifically you need your dog to know. If your dog is displaying signs of aggression towards other dogs or people (and you live within the Antelope Valley), Pup 101 is recommended. If you are outside this area but would still like to attend Pup 101, send an email with your information and your concerns and we can work something out. Board & Train is a great option as well as your dog is in a home environment learning the basics so when he/she goes home, it's an easy transition.

What is Positive Reinforcement?

-Positive reinforcement is a modern, more humane method of training based on the reward system; good behavior gets rewarded, whereas bad behavior gets ignored. The result is a happier dog and a stronger bond between the two of you.

Should I invest in training & is it beneficial?

-Investing in training is like investing in your future to be successful in life but you are investing in your dog. It also benefits your bond/relationship with your dog. Training not only makes your bond stronger but it also builds communication, understanding, mutual respect and most importantly trust. The benefits are endless and are for everyone, not just you and your dog. A well-behaved dog is a pleasure to be around and is able to go virtually anywhere without issues.

How long is each class?

-Pup 101 is 8 weeks long and is held at your house. On our first meet, we go over the contract & the booklet, what your expectations are and payment options in addition to learning the first command. The deposit is due at this time as well. Time spent each meeting is also determined on the number of dogs being trained. Board & Train is 2 full weeks long (14 days) and is held in my home where your dog will be under my supervision. During this time you will receive updates on your dogs' progress and at the end, there will be a one-hour training session with you and your dog so you can continue the training at your home.

Is my dog too old to train?

-People say "age is just a number" and it is even when it comes to your dog. Age does not matter as far as training is concerned. The saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is false.

What experience do you have as a trainer?

-I have been working and volunteering since the summer of 2007. Most of my experience has come from working with nonprofits, shelters and rescues as well as taken online courses to improve upon the knowledge I have. Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to working with animals. I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and have a handful of certifications including Pet First Aid & CPR. There are many breeds I have worked with including but not limited to: Akita, Anatolian Shepherd, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Boxer, Husky, McNab Shepherd, Chihuahua, Jack Russell Terrier, Bull Terrier, Doberman, Rottweiller, Blue Heeler, Labrador, American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Dachshund, Poodle, Shih Tzu, French Bulldog and the list goes on

What is a Clicker?

-A clicker is a tool used in training to help your dog recognize when it has done something correctly. It makes a distinctly clear sound each time so your dog is able to recognize when he/she has done the command the right way.

How much does it cost?

-Cost is determined by the number of dogs in your household for both types of training. Pup 101 starts at $200 (for 1 dog) and can go up to approximately $600 (for 4 dogs). Board & Train starts at $1,200 for one dog. I only take a limited number of dogs on for Board & Train at a time. Each class has a required, non-refundable deposit and cancellations must be done 48 hours prior to the start date. Payment must be paid in full, regardless if you/your dog finish either class. Refunds are determined on a case by case basis.

What if my dog has ongoing issues?

-If after either class is over and your dog is still in need of training help, your first step is to check your training booklet provided to you in Class 1 and remember the physical/verbal commands. Using clear and calm energy, go through the commands to refresh your dogs' memory. If that does not help, email me (your trainer) and we can set up a private, discounted session or sessions depending on the needs of your dog.

How young is too young?

-A dog is never too young or too old, however, your dog should be fully up to date on his/her vaccines including rabies and be at least 2 months old. You will need to bring a proof from your vet.
